Sporthotel Pontresina with its magnificent and stately palace architecture dating back to 1881 has been lovingly renovated, modernised and transformed into an elegant and comfortable hotel complex. This family-led establishment is positioned in the centre of Pontresina, the ideal starting point for sportive activities and a great location for meetings and workshops. After an exciting day we invite you to relax in our wellness-​oasis on the roof and to enjoy the magnificent view of the Engadin mountain scenery. Afterwards we pamper you with a delicious dinner and a drink at our SportBar.

Things to do in the area

Skiing: The period of the Workshop is rather early for skiing so not all lifts will be open. The three closest ski centers are Celerina (11 min by bus from Hotel), St Moritz Dorf (20 min by bus), St Moritz Bad - Signalbahn (23 min by bus). These centers usually open at the end of November, depending on snow cover. Please check external pageherecall_made for snow conditions and open lifts. In case of sufficient snow cover the valley also has many Nordic ski runs.

Walking: The village of Pontresina is a historical village with a modern flair. It has a nice village center, bars, restaurants to explore. During the Workshop we will organize a hike up to the Morteratsch glacier tongue, starting from the train station Morteratsch two stops up the valley from Pontresina. There are many other winter hikes in the area which can be accessed by the free local bus.

Swimming: The public baths in Pontresina (external pageBellavitacall_made) just across from the Hotel have hot water outdoor pools open in the winter. It is a unique opportunity to relax during a lunch break or after dinner. Sporthotel guests can get a ticket with discount at the reception for the Bellavita pool.

Registration Costs

The registration fee is 100 CHF payable in cash on-​site at registration full fee, 50 CHF reduced student fee. The registration fee is used for the rental of meeting space, poster boards, office equipment, coffee breaks, and the preparation of Workshop proceedings. Cash payment is preferred to avoid transaction costs. However if this is not suitable for you, please contact the Workshop office and an alternative will be found. If you cannot pay the registraiton cost please ask for a registration waiver.

Accomodation and Meal Costs

Single Room: 161 CHF person/day
Double Room: 146 CHF person/day (sharing room for 2)
Double Room: 121 CHF person/day (for third person in a Double Room)

There will be only a limited amount of single rooms, so take the opportunity to share a double room with a colleague if possible.

Included in the price are buffet breakfast, a 3-​course evening meal (soup/main course/dessert) excluding drinks, free ticket for the public transportation system in the valley (bus/train) from Alp Grum to Maloja and Brail, free WLAN, free use of the Sporthotel Wellness-​World and pick-​up at the Pontresina train station. Late arrivals may take a taxi or walk (15 min) from the station.

Not included in the price are ski equipment rental, ski tickets, lunch, parking (15 CHF per day in hotel indoor parking). Extending your stay beyond the Workshop period is possible only if arranged directly with the Hotel. Do this early because the Hotel is a very popular location for various sport groups.

Reservations in the Hotel can be made only by registered participants. Accommodation costs will be paid by participants directly to the Hotel. Late cancellation policies apply. Details will be provided by the Workshop office after registration.

For guests not staying at Sporthotel

If you will arrange your own accomodation elsewhere, you may still take the dinner offer in Sporthotel with the rest of the workshop attendants at a cost of 46 CHF/dinner (excluding drinks).

To Zurich

Look to fly into Zurich Airport (ca. 8 min to Zurich HB by train), which has international connections from all over the world. Discount carriers also fly into Mulhouse/Basel, from where you have a train connection to Zurich HB (1.5 hrs).

To Pontresina

There are hourly trains to Pontresina from Zurich HB (main station) until the evening. The trip takes about 3:40 and usually requires two changes (Chur and Samedan), both changes have connecting trains waiting. A full return ticket without any discount will cost about 150 CHF. Sporthotel is up the hill from the Pontresina train station, it is a rather steep 15 min walk, but you may take a taxi, or be picked up by the Hotel bus if you arrange it by telephone head of time. If you drive to Pontresina you may park your car in the covered car park at the Hotel for 15 CHF/day. If full, the neighboring conference center also offers parking at a charge.
